Known blocked terms

WARNING: This post contains words which many people may find disturbing or offensive. People who read this post aloud may find random strangers shoving bars of soap in their mouths. Printing it out from work computers is not recommended.

As of this writing, a long list of interst terms, and all derivations of them, cannot be searched on LiveJournal. They fall into three identifiable categories:

Save the Children

This set has two parts: a "family terms" list and an "activities/interests" list. Any interest that contains one from *each* set will be unsearchable; however, all these terms are searchable on their own, and in combination with other words--just not in combination with the other set.

For example, "child porn is blocked from search, although "child" and "porn" are searchable by themselves, and "food porn" is searchable, while "weoweichildasdf5pornzzaow" is not.

Group 1: Family Terms		Group 2: Activities & Interests

Because of this set, the following terms are unsearchable:
asexual motherhood, baby grapes, baby skinks, baby talcum powder, children's choral music, circumcising little boys, draper family, ecumenical schools, family of coral, family morals, family morality, jaunty drapes, moral brotherhood, porgy's grandma, scumbag dads, spanking in schools, stripping the gauntlet, sussex county virginia, unisex baby clothes, young grapefruit, young mayoral candidates.

However, because some very similar terms are not blocked, it's still possible to search for:
child pr0n, infant porn, father fellatio, my sister's breast, naked little girls, raping babies, screwing mothers and so on.

This seems like a very ineffective bit of blocking software.

No Bigots Allowed

This section includes racist and homophobic terms. These are all blocked, along with all their derivatives.

Nasty Epithets

Because of these, the following terms are blocked (apologies for not sorting them alphabetically):
CRACKER: ~~Baby crackers, cracker barrel, cracker jacks, crackerjacks, cheese and crackers, saltine crackers, wisecracker, firecracker, christmas crackers, sesame cracker, nutcracker suite~~
COON: cocoons, tycoon, raccoon, coon hound, maine coon cats
DAGO: Pedagogues, solidago, dagoba chocolate, dagobah
SPIC: ~~Spicy food, spice girls, perspicacity, aspic, allspice, jeff spicoli, hospice workers, despicable, auspices, conspicuous, suspicions, sugar and spice, spica, spiccato.~~
FAG: Fagin, fagus, fagioli, leafage, wharfage rates, donald fagen
WOP: Doo-wop music, swop meet, twopence

ETA: Cracker and spic have been removed from the blocked search term list.

Godwin's Killfile

These are terms commonly associated with Nazi ideals.

More than 14 Words

This means "Armenian genocide" and "genocide awareness" and "anti-genocide" are all blocked. Anti-kkk, anti white pride, anti aryan nation, and so on are blocked.

So is the name "maryanne," and "indo-aryan languages."

This changelog entry from June 22, 2007 gives the source code for the blockage:

Suggest new interests for me.

I only add unsearchable interests that have at least other journal carrying them. (And I'm not gonna stop you from adding it to your own journal, and then suggesting it... but that's kinda cheating. Kinda. Sorta. Well, anyway, I'm not recommending adding "young skinks" or "family acumen" or "child coral music" or "wharfage rates" or "twopenny theatre" to your interests.)
